Covid-19 & hygiene

Although the Covid emergency is now over, the disease of course hasn’t been completely eradicated. I have always practiced good hygiene and cleanliness, and these will continue to be a top priority for me.

For clients who are classed as ‘clinically vulnerable’, I still have complimentary face masks available, and can provide disposable gowns and towels on request.

I also have the following available for use by clients should they be required –

  • Anti-bacterial surface cleaner
  • Anti-bacterial wipes
  • Tissues
  • Disposable gloves

Health declaration

Prior to your visit, for the safety of all my clients and myself, I will ask you to confirm that you are not suffering from any coronavirus symptoms (high temperature, new continuous cough and/or loss or change to your sense of smell/taste) and have been symptom-free within the last seven days.
I will also ask you to confirm that you have not (as far as you aware) been in contact with anyone with coronavirus symptoms within the previous 14 days.
Finally, to confirm that you are not ‘shielding’ or have any underlying health conditions which might make you particularly vulnerable to coronavirus.

Covid-19 & hygiene

Good hygiene and cleanliness have always been a top priority for me and, because of the present Covid situation, this is even more important than ever.
I have undertaken special training in Covid protection and these are some of the precautions I take to ensure the safety and comfort of my clients –
  • I allow additional time between appointments to enable me to thoroughly clean and sanitise all surfaces in the salon, particularly the chair and the equipment I use.
  • I wear an appropriate face mask for each appointment, and scrupulously wash and sanitise my hands when each client arrives.
  • I provide each client with a disposable gown, and currently only use disposable towels.
  • I would ask you bring with you a face mask that you feel comfortable with. (Should you forget to bring one, then I have complimentary ones available).
  • Finally, my salon is well ventilated, with opening windows looking out on to my garden.

Wigs

For several years I’ve also specialised in wigs, particularly for clients with alopecia or undertaking medical treatment such as chemotherapy. I began doing this when my mother had to have chemotherapy and soon lost her hair in the process.

Finding the right wig, and then cutting and styling it to suit my mother, gave her such a boost. I was horrified at the lack of support provided in this important, but seemingly sometimes overlooked area, for women (and men) going through what can be a most traumatic time in their lives and set about trying to put that right.

I went on specialist training courses, and was fortunate to meet Trevor Sorbie OBE, already acknowledged to be one of Britain’s top stylists. He had also begun to specialise in wigs for similar personal family reasons and had set up a charity to in order to train hair stylists in the art of choosing, cutting and styling wigs. I was honoured to be one of the first to be chosen by him to take his course. It encouraged me to set up a separate business to specifically help people needing help with choosing and styling wigs.
